The baby bump looks cute while the baby is inside. Then the baby is born and you think you will go back to having your pre-pregnancy flat belly, but the tummy just won’t go in and in some cases it looks as if you still are pregnant! Sounds like you? Don’t worry. We have just the thing for you – home remedies to get your tummy in shape after delivery.

1. Boost your Hydration

Ample hydration is a must for nursing mums. Also, any weight loss regimen has to be aided by drinking enough water through the day. But lacing your water with the right things can work wonders when you are targeting the belly fat. Also, gulping down flavored water makes it easier for you to make sure you are having enough water. You can follow the below tips:

  • Have a tall glass of warm water with lemon and a tablespoon of honey first thing in the morning. Avoid eating anything for thirty minutes after this.
  • Create a detox drink by adding cucumber, mint leaves, and cayenne pepper to water. Let this water sit overnight. Then strain and sip it throughout the day. Go easy on the mint though since it can lower the milk supply.

2. Rub It In

There are a lot of creams and lotions available over the counter that when massaged on the problem areas can help you lose fat from those areas. These lotions don’t come cheap, though. So, either you can invest in one of the lotions, or you can whip one up in your own kitchen. Here are a few tips:

  • Blend some fresh grapes in a blender and strain the juice. For one part of grape juice, add in three parts of extra virgin olive oil. Transfer this mixture in a bottle and let it sit in the sun for a week. Shake the solution at least twice a day to get a homogenous mixture. Apply this on your belly regularly.
  • Many mums swear by ginger creams and ginger wraps to flatten the post-pregnancy belly.
  • If you are using store-bought creams, make sure you read the ingredients carefully to know if usage is safe for nursing mothers.

3. Breastfeed your Baby

This is the easiest way to burn calories. And you don’t even need to move! You can burn as much as 500 calories during the day by just nursing your baby and it also helps in contracting the uterus so that you can get a flatter abdomen.

4. Bind it Up!

Binding up the abdomen tightly using a maternity belt or traditional binding methods for as many hours during the day as you can. If you live in Singapore, you must be familiar with prenatal body massages and the Malay bengkungwrap is a method that has been used since many years to get a flatter belly after delivery.

However, before binding your abdomen, consult your doctor, especially if you have had a C-section delivery.

5. Curry Leaves

Curry leaves contain mahanimbine, an alkaloid that is known for keeping fat accumulation and obesity at bay. These leaves also helps you detoxify your body and as an added bonus, helps you combat that post-delivery hair fall.

You can have curry leaves raw, or use them in cooking. You can even boil a few curry leaves in some water and drink the strained water with a dash of lemon and some honey
